Celebrate The Season
Are you like us and having a hard time getting in the Christmas spirit? The warm weather and the lack of snow isn’t helping matters. The big day is getting closer and we still have a lot of holiday shopping to do. Well, we think we found the perfect solution! Cozy up in your favorite Christmas outfit and join us in Downtown Grand Junction on Friday, December 8th from 5pm to 8pm. JR’s Carriage Service will be offering free carriage rides. The pick-up location will be in front of Café Sol between 4th and 5th Street (on Main Street). In addition to carriage rides there will be live music, visits with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, warm beverages, sweet treats, and great shopping. The 22nd Annual Spirit of Christmas Walk is being coordinated in conjunction with the popular Chocolate Walk. This event is free to public and a great opportunity to enjoy our friendly beautiful downtown district.
Free Carriage Rides
Historic Downtown GJ Over Holidays
Join JR’s Carriage Service for FREE horse-drawn carriage rides in our beautiful historic Downtown Grand Junction. Carriage rides are being offered in an effort to promote and encourage downtown small business holiday shopping.
The carriage rides will take place every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 2pm. The pick-up location is located between 4th Street & 5th Street, on Main Street, in front of Cafe Sol. A carriage ride isn’t complete unless you get to meet and love on our gentle giants (a perfect photo opportunity).
While on the carriage you will tour the downtown area for around 10 minutes. Along the way you will learn about the historical landmarks, the various shops and dinning opportunities, the draft horse breed, and the art of driving teams of horses. Santa is never too far away – so make sure your kiddos bring their Christmas Wish List!
After your carriage ride experience, we recommend enjoying lunch at one of many delicious dinning options. The free carriage rides would not be possible without our partnership with the Small Businesses in Downtown Grand Junction. Please take a moment to follow “Downtown Grand Junction” on social media so that you are notified of future events (such as the free carriage rides).
The JR’s Team is looking forward to seeing you over the holidays in Downtown GJ! All photos provided by the beautifully talented Jami Davis Films. Merry Christmas from all of us at JR’s Carriage Service!
Excited to WELCOME Kaysyn Chintala as the newest member of the JR’s Carriage Service Team.
Born in Meeker, Colorado and raised on a ranch south of town, Kaysyn grew up on the back of a horse. Ranch work, roping, showing and rodeoing are second nature and her favorite pastimes. Recently she discovered a new area of the equine industry where she guided in the Flat Tops Wilderness Area packing campers by horseback. Joining our team, Kaysyn is delighted to share the Old West heritage with those who are open to equine adventures.
Along with Kaysyn’s passion for horses, she fell in love with athletics where she pursued volleyball and basketball scholarships in the flatlands of Kansas. After finishing her college athletic careers and receiving her degree in Business Technology, she is now seeking her Bachelor’s in Mathematics at Colorado Mesa University. Kaysyn is thrilled to crossover her competitive edge from basketball to breakaway and team roping at local rodeos.
We are excited to introduce you to the newest member of our team, Taylor van Zyl! Taylor was raised in Aspen, Colorado and brings with her years of equine experience. She recently graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in Equine Science and a minor in Agricultural Business. Taylor joined the JR’s Team, as our Lead Teamster, in early August. Her driving experience, spirited personality and connection/relationship with our horses made her a perfect fit for our long-term vision plan.
In addition to driving teams for JR’s Carriage Service, Taylor will be running her own business, VZ Performance Horses. She is quickly establishing herself in Fruita, Colorado by starting colts, training both English and Western horses and giving riding lessons to all age groups. Taylor will also continue competing in the rodeo circuit as a barrel racer and team roper. We are excited for all of you to meet Taylor!
It’s Wedding Planning Season! JR’s Carriage Service will be highlighting several wedding destination across the State of Colorado. Who knows….one of these locations could be your dream wedding destination!
The Holy Cross Abbey is located on 200 acres at the eastern edge of Cañon City, Colorado. The monastery building is a charming, four-story, English Gothic structure that has been enrolled in the National Registry of Historical Places. About fifty acres of the land constitute the Abbey campus. The remaining area is mostly under cultivation or used for various shops and farm buildings. Two Benedictine monks from St. Vincent Archabbey, Latrobe, PA came to Breckenridge, CO, in 1886. Other monks followed in ensuing years, moving from Breckenridge to Boulder to Pueblo to Cañon City, where the foundation was named Holy Cross Abbey. Until 1985, the monks of Holy Cross Abbey conducted a boarding school for high school students, and at times, also for middle school and college students.
Several years ago, some simple Benedictine Fathers had a dream…a dream of a fine winery located on the grounds of the historic Holy Cross Abbey. Today, that dream is a reality and the staff at the winery proudly invites you to share in the vision of those dynamic and innovative monks. Since July 2002, The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey has been attracting visitors from all over the world. Located on the pastoral and serene grounds of The Holy Cross Abbey, nestled against the spectacular backdrop of the Wet Mountains, the winery and tasting room are shining examples of what draws visitors to Cañon City and Fremont County. This wedding destination offers the accommodations for both the ceremony and the reception. Their reception area is large and surrounded by window that overlook the grounds. JR’s Carriage Service is honored to announce that our services have been nominated and selected for “The Wedding Pink”!! The Wedding Pink is an annual, heartfelt wedding giveaway package presented to a couple whose lives have been recently touched by breast cancer. Cheryl Ungar, the founder of The Wedding Pink, is a 21-year breast cancer survivor and a wedding photographer. In addition to Cheryl donating her own wedding photography services, she has put together an extraordinary team of some of Colorado’s top wedding vendors — all of whom have generously agreed to donate their services and products to ensure The Wedding Pink is a spectacular event for one very special couple. For more information on The Wedding Pink, please visit their heart touching website at: http://www.cherylungargives.com/
JR’s has been a sponsor/supporter of MANY local charities. In 2011, JR’s donated over $10,000 in services to foundations, charities, non-profits and other organizations similar to Cheryl Ungar Gives. Joseph R. Burtard, owner of JR’s Carriage Service, had an opportunity to sit down with Cheryl Ungar and, the recently selected couple, Ben and Erin. To read about their story, visit: http://www.cherylungargives.com/meet-erin-ben/
Ben and Joseph already have several activities planned during their visit from Virgina to Western Colorado. Including experiencing several of the local breweries and hiking Mt. Garfield with high hopes of running into the herd of wild horses. Watch for more information on The Wedding Pink as the May 2013 date approaches. JR’s is really looking forward to this opportunity and our new found friendship with Ben and Erin.
After much anticipation, the Hitched in GJ Bridal Experience event has come and gone. JR’s Carriage Service was featured as the “Grand Prize” vendor after offering a prize package, for one lucky bride and groom, valued at $1,000. The wedding expo attracted hundreds of brides-to-be to partake in the various hands-on activities the Western Slope wedding vendors had to offer.
I spent four hours that morning cleaning “Commander n’ Chief” which we had hitched to our black “New Victoria” wedding carriage. The ‘boys’ are starting to get their winter coats which made them look like giant black teddy bears. Located at the entrance, our booth made a great first impression of the experience the brides were going to get at the show. In addition to featuring our wedding carriage, our booth highlighted our horse-drawn pub crawls and wine tours (the perfect bachelor/Bachelorette party idea). I was very proud of the boys for hanging out at the expo all day – on their best behavior. We would take a break from our booth and give a couple rides around the nearby parking lot to some of the younger spectators.
It was really exciting to see and visit with so many eager brides. September of 2013 seems to be a very popular time of the year to take someone’s hand in marriage. We should be finding out very soon who the winner of the grand prize will be! Can’t wait to be a part of their special day! A huge THANK YOU to the staff at Hitched In GJ for putting on this event!
